For Immediate Release:

At the endorsement meeting of August 28th, the members of the Gertrude Stein Political Club of Greater Pittsburgh unanimously endorsed Barack Obama for President of the United States.  We had endorsed Hilary Clinton in the primary election.  At the time we felt there was not a lot of difference between them on issues important to us.  And we continue to believe that Senator Obama will protect and expand our equality under the law.  This includes a woman’s right to control her body.  There has never been a clearer difference between the two major party candidates for President and never a better reason for us to speak with one united voice.

For United States House of Representatives we endorse Titus North in the 14th District and Steve O’Donnell in the 18th District.  Both of them show an understanding of our issues and a commitment to our rights.  Mr. O’Donnell has also worked to establish a dialog with us.  In the 14th District we gave the incumbent, Michael Doyle, honorable mention.  We appreciate that he has been increasingly supportive of the rights of L/G/B/T people.  But he still does not support a women’s right to control their body.

For Pennsylvania State Treasurer we unanimously re-endorsed Rob McCord.  He understands our issues and supports our rights.  Given the number of state fiscal officers who have run for Governor, this is a race we need to pay attention to.  Mr. McCord will be a voice for our rights in whatever position he holds.

For the State House of Representative we unanimously re-endorsed Dan Frankel in the 23rd District and re-endorsed Joseph Preston in the 25th District.  They have been long time supporters of our issues in the House and we appreciate them being there.  In the 23rd we give Liz Hughes honorable mention.  She is a long supporter of our rights.  If she were running in any other district we would have endorsed her.

We also unanimously endorsed Ayanna M. Lee in the 44th District and re-endorsed Jake Wheatley in the 19th District with some concern.  While they show understanding and support for most of our rights, they do not have an understanding of issues regarding the Transgender population.  While we support their election, we are working to educate them.

This election is crucial regarding our right to get married, our right to serve in the military and our rights to control our bodies and our bedrooms.  We urge you to vote on November 4th.
