For Immediate Release:

The Gertrude Stein Political Club of Greater Pittsburgh announces its endorsement of Mike Doyle in the 14th Congressional District in this November 7th election.  We applaud the support Mr. Doyle has given to issues we are concerned about in recent years.  While we are still concerned about his lack of support for a women’s right to control her body with regards to reproduction we still feel he represents us well on G/L/B/T issues and urge everyone to support him.

For State Legislature we endorsed incumbent State Legislators Don Walko in the 20th District, Dan Frankel in the 23rd District and Joe Preston in the 24th District.  They have all been consistent supporters of our rights in the Legislature.  And members who live in their districts feel they also keep their G/L/B/T voters informed on issues of concern to them.   We also endorsed Lisa Bennington runner in the 21st District.  She is supportive of all current L/G/B/T issues and is solidly pro-choice.  We look forward to her representing us in Harrisburg.

After extensive discussion the Club decided to offer our endorsement to Governor Edward Rendell when his campaign returns a questionnaire.

The questionnaire assures the candidate publicly affirms their position on the issues.  With a signed questionnaire we can hold them to their commitments once they are elected.

We offered him the endorsement because we feel he supports a number of our issues, including the right for women to control their bodies.  We are concerned about his lack of leadership in funding and education on fighting AIDS.  However, based on his record, we will be better of as G/L/B/T people if Governor Rendell is reelected.

The members at the endorsement meeting on September 14, 2006, agreed to work this election with Steel City Stonewall Democrats and Liberty PA to emphasize the importance of the November 7th election for the L/G/B/T community and the need for the community to speak unison to protect and expand our equality.  We urge you to vote on November 7th,
