Pittsburgh, PA (April 15, 2005)--

The Gertrude Stein Political Club of Greater Pittsburgh (GSPCGP) announced today that it has completed it’s endorsements for the 2005 Primary Election.  Michael Lamb was endorsed for mayor in the Democratic Primary.  Both Bill Peduto and Bob O’Connor were given honorable mentions for their contributions to the LGBT community.  Bill Peduto was also endorsed for Pittsburgh City Council as representative from district 8.  Also endorsed for Pittsburgh City Council were Sala Udin in district 6 and Erin Molchany from district 2.  Honorable mentions for Pittsburgh City Council were voted for Tonya Payne from district 6 and Harlan Stone in district 8.   Although no candidates were endorsed for Allegheny County Council, C. L. Jabbour from district 9 was given an honorable mention.  The Club endorsed Thomas Sumpter for Pittsburgh School Board who is running as both a Democrat and Republican.  Although you will be able to vote for seven seats for judges for the Allegheny Court of Common Pleas, the Club has endorsed five candidates.  Running as on both tickets are Kathryn Hens-Greco and  James Mahood.  Stephen Begler,  Jon Pushinsky and Wrenna Watson are running as democrats.  Eileen Conroy was endorsed in the 5-2-27 district for Magisterial District Judge and Cathleen Cawood Bubash was endored in the 5-2-40 district.  Nancy L. Longo was given and honorable mention in the 5-2-27 district.  In an effort to broaden our endorsement area, questionnaires were sent to candidates for Wilkinsburg Borough Council, Plum Borough Council, and Aspinwal Borough.  We have endorsed William G. Oresick from district 3 for Aspinwal Borough Council.  We also received 8 completed questionnaires for Wilkinsburg Borough Council.  Four each from the 2nd and 3rd wards.  We endorsed Pamela Macklin and Barbara Nicholas from the 2nd ward and Denise Edwards and Carl Lewis from the 3rd ward.  Honorable mentions were voted for Kathleen Wilson and Jason Cohn from the 2nd ward and for Tracy Evans and William C. Bowyer of the 3rd ward.

The Stein Club based its endorsements on candidates’ track records and their responses to the Club’s questionnaire. The Club did not make endorsements for state or local offices for which it did not receive questionnaires from viable candidates.
