George W. Bush to Attend Pittsburgh Pride Parade

Saturday, June 19 at11:30 AM

Fifth and Ross Streets, Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh, PA (June 18, 2004)-- George W. Bush will be part of the Gertrude Stein Political Club of Greater Pittsburgh contingent at Saturday’s Pride Parade. The parade, part of PrideFest 2004, the premier celebration of the region’s gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and transgendered citizens and their institutions, will step off at 11:30 AM on Saturday, June 19, 2004 from the corner of Fifth and Ross Streets in Downtown Pittsburgh.

Bush will be appearing on the Pants on Fire float, which is visiting Pittsburgh as part of a nationwide tour. The construction of the statue and the purchase of its tow vehicle were made possible by the members of TrueMajority ACTION, which was begun by Ben Cohen, co-founder of Ben and Jerry’s.

The 12 foot high statue of Bush is mounted on a flatbed trailer and pulled by a Ford Crown Victoria with diplomatic style American flags waving from the fenders. The flames actually are artificial fire that looks very realistic. George is outlined in electroluminescent wire for a very spooky effect (and so he's visible at night).
